Apple iPad review: First look
Is the Apple iPad really any good or just a lot of hot air? We review it to find out.

But today, we've got iPhone OS 3.2, so let's stick with that for now. Remember how amazed you were when you first upgraded from the iPhone or iPhone 3G to the iPhone 3GS? Remember how much faster apps opened and how spry overall performance was compared to older models? The jump from iPhone 3GS to iPad is very similar.
In fact, using an iPhone after spending some time with the iPad is a bit painful. We've never seen a mobile device render web pages so quickly, for example.
In many respects, the iPad provides the best web browsing experience of any device currently available, mobile or otherwise. Make note of the term "web browsing" however, because the iPad has mastered just that - browsing the web. Interacting with the web, on the other hand, isn't nearly as fluid as it is on a full-scale device.
Consuming the web is where the iPad shines. As long as you're not trying to consume any Flash content that is.
In terms of performance, the rest of the apps on the iPad are no different. Tap an icon and the associated app is open and ready to go in an instant. Of course, app performance is outstanding too. No stuttering, no stammering and no lag - just the amazingly responsive user experience we've come to expect from
Apple's mobile devices. No other OS is as smooth, and it will be quite some time before anything can even come close.
