Sony Playstation Network hack fine should have been higher, argue legal experts

Stephen Midgley, the vice president of marketing at security vendor Absolute Software, said: "How can technology companies expect their customers to take security seriously unless they themselves do?

"Whilst many consumers might click the 'delay' button on their anti-virus updates and subscription renewals, hitting the security snooze-button in a business context makes for an open invitation to hackers," he said.

Midgley added that one positive that could come out of the Sony situation is that it could raise awareness about the importance of good data security.

"Hopefully it will encourage those still lax to bring IT security to the boardroom and make it a priority issue in business," he said.
