Android 7 Nougat release date, name and features: Nougat grows to 13% of all Android devices

13/01/2017:The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will be getting the Android 7.0 Nougat in the coming days, with some select users reporting they've already started installing the update.

Samsung's latest handsets run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, but the Nougat update will include bring all of the latest OS's features, such as multiple window support and enhanced notifications, as well as security patches to make the devices more secure.

However, Samsung explained those that have network-branded devices may have to wait a little longer until their devices receive the update.

While this is good news for S7 and S7 Edge owners in general, unfortunately it may noe bring the new devices completely up to speed. In December, Google launched Android 7.1.1, which rolled out to its own Pixel phones almost immediately. However, Samsung is currently not being clear as to whether its S7 and S7 Edge customers will receive this latest update or the base Android 7.0 Nougat OS.

Meanwhile, Lenovo has announced it will release Android 7.0 Nougat for its ZUK Z2 and Z2 Pro devices next week (week commencing 16 January).

One of Lenovo's Group vice presidents made the announcement via Chinese social media site Weibo, saying it'll arrive at some point next week, which is nearly two weeks earlier than the company's previous announcement (28 January).

The Android Nougat update will launch alongside a Lenovo update, introducing the ZUI 2.5, providing bug fixes and performance enhancements for the two smartphones. Headline features of ZUI 2.5 include optimised system stability, a security patch and the introduction of split screen allowing you to operate two apps at the same time on one screen.
