Windows Azure review

Moving to Azure requires a whole new mindset - it's best to keep an eye on how the meter's running.

This isn't aimed at the classic kids-in-paddling-pool, frog-in-blender home movie buff, nor is it a serious prospect for a classic small business considering cloud infrastructure over local servers. It's rather at a scale so mahoosively, unbelievably vast that I couldn't even hold up the binoculars required to see that territory, from where most of us humble types live.

The idea behind this is all part of Azure Media Services, being the killer-whale sized pool of both store and compute resource needed to make a stream of video from a camera or cameras, into something that can be viewed on demand by millions of impatient customers. Yet it's on the same smooth, designer-led little webpage that will be visited by the 30/month toe-in-the-water users. In short, you have to get your bearings, and understand a bit more than just what's needed for your corner of the computing world, in order to get the best from the Azure trial, because it very definitely is big. B-I-G, Big.
