T-Mobile will next month launch a pay-as-you-go mobile 3G broadband tariff, costing a maximum of 4 per day and requiring no contract.
The new service, called Web'n'Walk Plus Daily, includes unlimited browsing and "super fast" speeds of up to 3.6Mb/sec via a USB modem.
Before users can begin to use the service though, they must purchase a 100 starter pack which includes the USB modem. For customers signing up for a contract Web'n'Walk plan, the hardware is usually free or pretty close to it.
"We know consumers value the flexibility of mobile broadband, accessing the internet for all the reasons they love, whenever they want, wherever they are. Now they can try this without the constraints of a fixed line," says Richard Warmsley, head of internet on the move at T-Mobile.
While the 4 per day cost could add up if used regularly, the flexibility may appeal to light users. Customers will be notified if they are using Web'n'Walk Plus Daily regularly enough to justify switching to a monthly Plus or Max contract, which are priced at 20 and 35 per month with a 3GB and 10GB fair use policy respectively.
Essentially these services are identical, except that Skype and other VoIP calls are not allowed on the cheaper Plus package.
