Sun Microsystems has added to its storage portfolio with the release of the J4000 series, a new family of storage arrays.
The company says that the J4000 family offers a ten times saving over traditional arrays when combined with its own servers and its Solaris ZFS operating system.
It has also introduced its Sun Fire X4540 storage server, based on its Sun Fire X4500 "Thumper" system. The company says that the X4540 offers the industry's highest storage density with 30-50 per cent power and cooling savings at half the price of competitor storage products.
The storage server is aimed at high-performance computing (HPC), business intelligence, data warehousing and video streaming applications.
Prices start at $3000 (1,520.26) for the J4000 series and Sun claims that it offers breakthrough pricing at less than $1 (51p) per Gigabyte.
The Sun Fire X4500 storage server family starts at $22,000 (11,141) and is available this month.
