Delta to offer in-flight Wi-Fi

Delta Air Lines has announced ambitious plans to offer Wi-Fi internet access on around 330 planes that service its domestic routes.

The access will cost a flat rate of $9.95 (5) on flights of three hours or less and $12.95 (6.50) on flights of more than three hours.

"Beginning this [autumn], our passengers will have the ability to stay connected when they travel with us throughout the US," said Richard Anderson, Delta's chief executive.

It is a move that will not only bring in much-needed income, but will help Delta differentiate its service and attract lucrative business travellers.

The Wi-Fi deployment is expected to be completed by the summer of 2009.
