Microsoft will be demoing a new version of its Windows Mobile operating system (OS) next month.

Stephanie Ferguson, general manager of business experiences at Microsoft's mobile communications arm, will deliver a presentation of Windows Mobile 6.5 at Tech Ed 2009 on 11 May, according to the Windows Mobile blog.

Speculation is rife that this would lead to a launch.

However, a spokesperson from Microsoft confirmed to IT PRO that: "As far as we are aware there are no announcements about a launch of Windows Mobile 6.5 but there will be a demo at Tech Ed of the new system. We understand there has been a bit of speculation but Microsoft does not comment on rumours."

Devices preloaded with the Windows Mobile 6.5 OS are not due to be available until later this year but Ferguson's presentation will include "a cool demo and an outline of great stuff to come."
