IT security firm Proofpoint has acquired cloud-based anti-malware developer Armorize Technologies for $25 million in cash.

The deal was announced last August, but the transaction has only just been completed.

Brothers Wayne and Matt Huang founded Taiwan-based Armoize and the company has more than 35 Certified Ethical Hackers (CEH) and specialises in cloud-based threat intelligence, detection of 'zero-day' attacks, real-time dynamic threat protection and advanced malware detection research.

Proofpoint had been using some of the firm's technology for almost a year prior to the purchase of the company.

The acquisition supplements Proofpoint's capabilities with a new set of real-time dynamic detection technologies for next-generation threats and malware, and will bolster its Targeted Attack Protection product, ProofPoint hopes.

“Proofpoint's acquisition of Armorize strengthens our position in the malware market, one of the most important spaces in the security industry,” said Proofpoint CEO Gary Steele.

“With the Armorize technology, we're taking a fundamentally different approach to solving persistent threats in the cloud, which will truly set us apart and solidify Proofpoint’s position in next-generation cloud-based threat detection and malware research expertise.”

"We are proud to join forces with a company that is leading the way in the fight to keep data safe in the face of evolving attacks such as Advanced Persistent Threats," added Armorize chief executive Wayne Huang. "Being part of the Proofpoint organisation will definitely enable Armorize to further leverage our core technologies and research across a wider range of customers."
