Synology DiskStation DS2015xs review
Synology’s DS2015xs makes 10GbE storage networks even more affordable
With its SFP+ ports and Annapurna SoC, the DS2015xs is a bit of an odd-ball NAS appliance. IP SAN write performance isn’t great but it has no problems with NAS operations and you won’t get dual 10GbE ports as standard for less than this

Very good value; dual 10GbE SFP+ ports; Good NAS performer; Feature-rich DSM software

10GbE transceivers increase price; Alpine SoC delivers poor iSCSI write performance
A mixed performance
We connected the DS2015xs over a direct 10GbE fibre link to an HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 rack server. This was equipped with dual 14-core E5-2695 v3 Xeons, 64GB of DDR4, an Emulex OCE11102-NM dual port 10GbE adapter and Windows Server 2012 R2 at the helm.
Performance for NAS shares is good with Iometer reporting raw sequential read and write rates of 1077MB/sec and 1002MB/sec Netgear's ReadyNAS 716 mustered speeds of 1032MB/sec and 600MB/sec. The DS2015xs handles backup tasks well with our 22.4GB test folder and its 10,500 small files copied to the share at a speedy average of 265MB/sec.
IP SAN performance over 10GbE is less impressive with Iometer returning read and write rates for a 500GB target of 975MB/sec and 495MB/sec. An MPIO link didn't improve the picture much with read and write speeds increasing marginally to 1161MB/sec and 552MB/sec.
The updated Notes Station lets you create masterpieces on the move and share them with other DSM users
