Networking giant Netgear has completed its $60 million acquisition of Infrant Technologies, a networked storage provider specialising in solutions for home users and small businesses.
Its ReadyNAS family of networked RAID storage features a proprietary network storage processor and the Linux-based RAIDiator operating system. Netgear also acquires the patent-pending Expandable Protection X-RAID technology, which allows for automatic RAID volume expansion as additional drives are added.
"This acquisition fits Netgear's strategy of expanding its product portfolio, strengthening its global brand presence and adding on proven management talent to further grow our business," said Patrick Lo, Netgear's chief executive.
"Infrant's offerings complement Netgear's current Storage Central offering and accelerates Netgear's participation in the expanding market for networked attached storage."
Lo added that the ReadyNAS portfolio complements Netgear's digital home entertainment products such as the EVA8000 Digital Entertainer HD, which streams digital content from a PC, the Internet and NAS storage devices to a TV set.
