Data Domain has released a new deduplication technology, this time for the remote office.
The DD120 Remote Office deduplication storage system marks the first time the company has focused on a market other than centralised data centres. The DD120 is essentially a lower-end version of the company's other products, which analyse stored data to identify redundant instances, cutting footprints by some 20 times.
Platz said the DD120 is easy to use, with the backup system looking just like a regular disc.
The product marks an extenstion in focus for Data Domain, who have previously focused on centralised solutions. "We're just been in the data centre so far," said Platz. "Meanwhile, other companies have dominated in the remote office."
