Virgin Media tops broadband speed poll
Virgin Media and O2 performed well in download speeds last month but upload speeds are still very low for both companies.
Virgin Media has again topped a broadband poll of the best average download speeds, it was confirmed today.
The monthly speed test by Broadband.co.uk has put the company top yet again for the month of September 2009, with an average speed of 7.238Mbps.
The website said in a statement: "During September 2009 Virgin Media have yet again extended their lead as the UK's fastest broadband supplier however their average speed is no longer rising."
Second place was awarded to O2 which managed an average of 5.535Mbps, followed in third place by TalkTalk on an average of 3.402Mbps.
However, the best average upload speed went to O2 although it was still low at 0.738Mbps. Virgin then took second spot on 0.513 and TalkTalk again came third with 0.461.
The overall UK download speed average came out as 4.361Mbps but was lifted significantly by the performance of the top two contenders. Average upload speed sat at 0.441Mbps.
