IBM boost speed and power with new servers

IBM has massively boosted its enterprise storage offer with the introduction of new systems, enhanced versions of existing products, and a new warranty service option for its System Storage DS6000 series.

The new IBM System Storage DS8100 Turbo and DS8300 Turbo systems are based on POWER5+ processors, and deliver a 15% increase in transaction processing speed over the previous IBM System Storage DS8000 storage system, says Big Blue.

DS8000 Turbo models now include more tiered storage options, with the aim of working better with DB2 applications on IBM System p servers. IBM says it also now supports better business continuity over greater distances.

On the enterprise server side, IBM has also introduced new blade, deskside, and rack-mounted systems for mid-sized businesses.

The POWER5+ quad-core module-based family of entry level servers have been enhanced. IBM says it has worked with other software vendors on offerings to provide users with vertically and horizontally-focused applications for specific computing environments.

IBM says pricing for the new look Quad Core Module systems makes them competitive with x86 based systems.
