Google's Files Go Android app for file management has been launched into a public beta phase in order to gain a wider group of testers for the app.
While Google had originally planned to release the app in December, the app was discovered earlier this week in the Play Store as an early access program for testing purposes. However, the program quickly filled up, making it unavailable for more downloads, according to TechCrunch.
Instead of trying to keep it quiet, however, it seems that Google has decided to take advantage of the media coverage and interest in the new app by returning the app to the Play Store and opening it up to more beta testers interested in testing it out before the public launch in December.
"Looks like some of you found our Files Go Beta :-) We thought we'd make it available for a few more of you on the Play Store. Feedback welcome!", Google's Caesar Sengupta tweeted earlier this week.
The app is listed in Google Play as "Files Go Beta: Free up space on your phone (Unreleased)". While the main focus of the app is files management, the Google Play Store describes other functions of the app such as its ability to recover space through deleting spam and duplicate images. It also helps identify rarely used apps, helps find important documents faster, and allows for the sharing of files offline through Bluetooth.
The app, which is an under 6MB download, will be fully available to the public starting in December.
