Apple set to launch new iPad Pro models this month despite supply issues
Issues affecting the production of mini-LED displays could mean the top-end 12.9in model is in short supply
Apple’s latest iPad Pro models could be announced later this month despite component shortages affecting the production of at least one of the new models.
Apple will announce a new 12.9in iPad Pro with new mini-LED display technology, according to Bloomberg, as well as other updated iPad Pro tablets that will be available in two sizes.
The mini-LED screen will be made available exclusively on the 12.9in model, which could be announced in the second half of April, and will reportedly improve contrast ratios and deliver a brighter picture.
This will be Apple’s first new hardware launch of 2021 and the mini-LED technology is being provided by numerous manufacturers including Ennostar, General Interface Solution Holding and Taiwan Surface Mounting Technology.
However, Apple is said to be facing mini-LED supply issues, particularly with the supply of Mini-LED displays due to poor production yields, and Bloomberg reports that at least one of the manufacturers has been forced to pause as a result of the issues. Because of this, it may mean that the larger iPad Pro model will ship later and be available in “constrained quantities”.
Later this year, the tech giant will host its WorldWide Developers Conference (WWDC21) from June 7 to 11. This virtual-only event will only take place online and is where the company announces new information about any updates to its iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS operating systems.
At last year’s WWDC, the tech giant announced its iPadOS, and iOS14, as well as a new alliance between fellow tech giants Amazon and Google which saw Apple open-source its HomeKit platform.
