Savvis expands cloud infrastructure

Expansion in 10 datacentres announced as firm gears up for cloud push

Cloud infrastructure vendor Savvis is to expand 10 of its datacentre as it attempts to broaden the footprint of its cloud.

The company will also open new data centres in London and Hong Kong. Combined with expansion of its existing eight datacentres around the world, the firm said it is growing its footprint in response to growing global demand for enterprise cloud, managed hosting, network and colocation services.

The expansions and additions offer around 85,000 square feet of new space to Savvis’ global presence, boosting the company’s total available data center space to more than 2.4 million square feet across more than 50 data centers located throughout North America, Europe and Asia.

Its London datacentre has additional space completed in April this year with a separate facility expansion to be completed later in September.

Other facilities that have been completed in April include; Boston and Atlanta and the US and Singapore. Its Washington DC datacentre was completed in May while its Dallas datacentre is expected to be completed in July. Two other US datacentres, one in Piscataway in New Jersey and Tampa, Florida will be completed in August and October respectively.

Its Hong Kong datacentre is expected to be completed in November.

Jeff Von Deylen, president of Savvis said that be expanding its footprint "we’re giving businesses additional strategic, secure locations and interconnectivity opportunities for growing their capabilities and core business offerings through infrastructure outsourcing.”

Earlier in March, Savvis expanded its operations in Slough, boosting the site's total square footage to 100,000, spreading 8.88 megawatts of power across the site's two data centres. Its LO5 data centre offers an initial 2.4 megawatts of IT load on 35,000 square feet of raised floor space. It is designed to support power densities in excess of 150 watts per square foot. LO5 represents Savvis' fifth data centre in the London area and sixth in Europe.
