Virgin overtakes O2 for download speeds?
As rumours of a 50Mb broadband rollout surface, a new test places Virgin Media ahead of the mobile operator for download speeds.
Virgin Media seems to have overtaken O2 as the fastest broadband supplier, according to a new set of speed tests.
The new tests from broadband.co.uk [a href="https://www.itpro.com/606645/o2s-broadband-the-fastest-but-still-slower-than-advertised" target="_blank"]show Virgin's average download speed is 6.13Mbps, while O2 manages 5.32Mbps. However, O2 still leads on upload speeds, followed by Virgin.
Edd Dawson from broadband.co.uk said: "The results show the fruits of Virgin's work to improve download speeds in recent months and we expect the results to improve further for Virgin as its 50Mb/sec service becomes more widely available over the coming months."
Indeed, rumours floating around the web suggest Virgin Media is set to roll out its superfast broadband within the coming weeks, although it is expected to take until at least next spring to complete.
The company also recently announced its entry into the mobile broadband market.
