RSA offers free software development security tools

RSA has launched a program that will bring security tools to corporate software developers for free.

The RSA Share Project offers application developers a free download of the RSA BSAFE Share Encryption toolkit, which is aimed at encouraging built-in rather than bolted-on security.

It allows developers to add and integrate encryption into their own applications and products, be it commercial or non-commercial.

RSA, the security division of EMC, claimed that in the past constrained IT budgets made it impractical to use RSA BSAFE code, but that the no-cost solution was a trustworthy alternative.

Eric Baize, senior director of product security at EMC said that the RSA Share Project, as well as offering free technologies, was a way of developers to collaborate with minds in cryptography and software security thanks to its online community.

He said in a statement: "Application end users are becoming increasingly aware of the threats posed by fraudsters.

"But in the end they want security to be built into products at the time they are developed not considered as an afterthought."

RSA BSAFE Share Software is available as a free download on the RSA Share Project community website.
