VMware announces bumper crop of hybrid cloud, desktop and storage tools

Virtualisation giant VMware has unveiled three new and updated products to help systems administrators get to grips with the post-PC world.

The updated portfolio of products, built on the company's vSphere offering, uses a hybrid cloud infrastructure to give employees on-demand tools for collaborating across applications and data from any device.

The new tools are designed to help organisations simplify the IT management of large-scale deployments and half the total cost of ownership associated with running virtual desktops.

"VMware View 5.1 and our growing portfolio of personal cloud solutions will address the needs to simplify technology, manage more efficiently and better connect employees."

View 5.1 boasts new storage capabilities, based on VMware View Storage Accelerator, which the vendor claims can decrease shared storage costs.

VMware View Persona Management also broadens out to non-virtual desktops, maintaining user settings across all Windows-based computers and helping the migration from physical to virtual machines.

Enhancements to VMware View 5.1 will allow firms to make IT processes - such as provisioning, conguration management, connection brokering, policy enforcement, performance monitoring, and application assignment - more efficient through the use of a single management console.
