Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 768G 5G platform

Qualcomm has announced an upgrade to its Snapdragon 765G platform, in the form of the new Snapdragon 768G.

Originally released in December 2019, Snapdragon 765G platform phones have just started trickling out, but the company has already unveiled an upgraded version. This upgraded platform will provide users with better CPU and GPU performance than its still-fresh predecessor.

The differences between the 765G and the 768G are few, but the main distinctions are the 768G’s upgraded Qualcomm Adreno 620 GPU and Qualcomm Kryo 475 CPU. Qualcomm claims 768G’s upgraded Adreno 620 GPU will offer up to 15% faster graphics rendering than the Snapdragon 765G.

The revised Qualcomm Kryo 475 CPU will boast a clock speed of 2.8GHz, a notable boost over the 765G’s 2.4GHz version of the same CPU.

The Snapdragon 768G 5G mobile platform will also feature an integrated Snapdragon X52 modem with support for mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G and will be compatible with standalone and non-standalone 5G networks. This will allow it to support all key regions and frequency bands, making this a more useful processor worldwide.

Similar to its predecessor, the 768G mobile platform is meant for gaming-optimized devices. Designed to provide smoother gameplay and more enhanced detail and colors via true 10-bit HDR, Snapdragon 768G also gives users access to special game extensions and optimizations.

Also included in Qualcomm’s announcement is the release of the Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition, the first commercial device to feature the Snapdragon 768G mobile platform. This smartphone supports 5G SA/NSA dual-mode and features a 120Hz display and up to a 64-megapixel camera.
