Most iPhone users plan to buy Apple AirTags
They intend to use the devices to track keys, pets, luggage — and other humans
A new survey indicates most Apple users plan to buy AirTags and use them for interesting things.
We all know Apple customers are famously loyal, and a customer survey conducted by SellCell.com, a used smartphone website, puts an exclamation point on that loyalty. The site surveyed iPhone and iPad users to gauge their opinions on new Apple products and other Apple-related issues. The findings were eye-opening.
“A whopping 92.6% are locked into Apple’s ecosystem and would never consider switching away to Android,” the site reported.
More than six in 10 of them plan to buy AirTags. AirTags, which first went on sale on April 30, are trackers that you can attach to things so you can find them with your iPhone, iPad, or other Apple device.
Most of the people who want an AirTag would go ahead and get a four-pack for $99 instead of spending $29 for only one.
Even more interesting is what people are planning to use their AirTags for.
When the site asked iPhone users what they’re planning to track with their AirTags, the most popular responses were fairly typical. They included keys (42%), pets (35%) and luggage (31%).
Dig a little deeper into the results, and you’ll find many people intend to use AirTags to track other people. The responses included kids at 15%, while tracking their partner clocked in at nearly 7%.
This is all despite the fact AirTags have already been hacked, even though they’ve been out only two weeks. The hack occurred when a cyber security researcher cracked an AirTag’s microcontroller and sent the AirTags user to his website instead of the device locator site. The researcher did note he bricked two other AirTags while trying to hack them.
SellCell’s survey of iPhone and iPad users came up with a few other intriguing findings:
More than 8 in 10 respondents want to see the Face ID feature on upcoming iMacs and Macbooks. When asked what features they hope to see in the next iPhone, the most popular answer was the return of Touch ID (21%). When asked for their color preference for the new iMac, the most popular answers by far were blue (33%) and silver (30%). The other colors weren’t nearly as popular: green (13%), purple (9%), yellow (7%), pink (4%) and orange (3%).
