BT to provide public sector ICT services
The procurement framework is worth up to £200m
BT has announced a new ICT procurement deal worth 200m that will see the telecommmunications provider offer its range of products to the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and Westminster City Council.
Departments in the organisations will be able to use BT's products and services including local and wide area networking, cloud services, fixed and mobile telephony, unified communications and conferencing.
By setting up a framework for the sole use of BT's services, the buying process is more straightforward and streamlined, ensuring it saves time and budget. Additionally, it means all departments are using the same systems for better integration of services.
"This new framework represents an innovative approach to procurement, making it simpler, faster and more cost-effective for public sector organisations in the capital to buy the latest cutting-edge ICT services," Colm O'Neill, managing director of major and public sector at BT, said.
"We see this very much as a partnership with the organisations involved and they'll be able to play a part in shaping the future direction of travel of the framework and the products available on it."
Although the services are available primarily for local governments to use, they can also be taken up by other metropolitan public body organisations including the NHS, schools, Transport for London, waste disposal services and the Met Police.
To win the contract, BT tendered to be the sole supplier alongside other companies providing the same services.

"BT was successful in a highly competitive process against other major communication companies. We're delighted to have the chance to work with such an interesting and diverse set of public sector organisations ranging from schools, NHS Trusts, police forces and social landlords, among others, to bring them a wide range of ICT services to support pan-London collaboration."
