HP announces lockdown-friendly security products

HP has announced the launch of four new security products which aim to provide complete threat protection for businesses and employees working remotely.

The new offerings come in the face of a mass movement of employees being forced to work away from the office environment as companies attempt to follow governmental guidelines for self-isolation, while also maintaining their usual business operations and security standards.

HP’s decision to widen its security services catalogue comes after studies found that over 80% of home office routers are vulnerable to potential cyberattacks, while 90% of PC infections came from attachments found in emails, according to the Ponemon Institute 2018 State of Endpoint Security Risk.

What's more, last year’s ESG Global IT Survey found that a staggering 96% of security breaches were not discovered until months after they had happened, while a 2018 study by CybSafe claimed that 32% of UK businesses said they had suffered a cyber attack as a direct result of an employee working remotely and outside of the organisation's security perimeter.

HP’s new security products, which include HP Pro Security Edition, HP Proactive Security, HP Sure Click Pro, and HP Sure Click Enterprise, could be the answer to the growing number of cyber security threats linked to remote working.

While Sure Click Enterprise and Pro Security Edition won’t launch until May and Summer 2020, respectively, HP Proactive Security is expected to become available to customers and partners worldwide next month.

HP describes the latter as a managed service that is targetted at small and medium-sized businesses seeking a defense against cyberattacks without significantly increasing their workload.

Numerous companies are offering free software during the coronavirus crisis, and HP announced that Sure Click Pro will be available for download free of charge, on both HP and non-HP devices, until 30 September 2020. Sure Click Pro aims to “help protect users from web, email, and document-based security threats” and is an enhancement to the already available HP Sure Click.

“In today’s environment, the PC is more relevant than ever, and security is a critical concern. With growing cybersecurity threats, there is a real need for security solutions that help protect, detect, and recover,” said Alex Cho, president of Personal Systems at HP.

“HP’s new offerings provide a unique combination of cloud, AI and its hardware-enforced security technologies to deliver a more protected future to combat evolving cybersecurity threats for every business segment – from growing businesses to large enterprises.”

The announcement comes following the news that HP had asked shareholders to spurn Xerox's latest takeover offer, by claiming a complex merger could be “disastrous” for the company amid the global COVID-19 pandemic.
