Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8in and 10.1in devices unveiled

Tech giant Samsung today took the wraps off two new Android-based tablet devices as part of its Galaxy Tab 3 series.

The newly announced 8in and 10.1in devices complement the Galaxy Tab 3 7in version already on the market and will feature Intel chip technology inside rather than ARM processors, according to Reuters. This adds weight to rumours that surfaced in a Reuters report last month suggesting a Samsung/Intel partnership was imminent. Samsung chose not to name the chip manufacturer in its press release detailing the new launches, however.

The device is said to offer paper-like' reading in a range of lighting conditions

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8in weighs in at 314g, runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and sports a WXGA TFT 12800x800 PPI resolution screen. It is small enough to be held with just one hand, according to the tech firm, and is said to offer paper-like' reading in a range of lighting conditions.

S Translator is also on board, making the 8in device ideal for business users travelling to foreign shores as well as helping holiday makers get where they want to go more easily. The device boasts a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 16/32GB (expandable up to 64GB using a microSD card) of internal memory plus 1.5GB of RAM. That is in addition to a five megapixel rear and 1.3 front-facing camera and the usual range of Samsung features such as ChatON and WatchON to aid productivity and enhance the multimedia listening and viewing experience.

No battery life timings have been announced, though Samsung has confirmed the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8in will feature a 4,450 mAh Li-ion battery, while its bigger brother will come equipped with a beefier 6,800 mAh Li-ion one.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 sports the same resolution display and version of Android and camera specs as its smaller sibling but unsurprisingly is a tad heavier at 510g. It boasts a 1.6GHz dual-core processor which is primed for everyday or intensive use, according to its maker. Storage-wise it has the same size internal memory as the 8in version, yet RAM is somewhat smaller at just 1GB compared with 1.5GB.

Both Samsung Galaxy Tab devices will be available later this year though Samsung has not confirmed specific details such as price and exact shipping dates. However, it has confirmed that it will be offering 4G LTE, 3G and Wi-Fi options.
