Firefox 29 arrives on beta with Australis interface

Firefox 29 has arrived on beta with a completely new interface, built with user customisation in mind.

The browser's customisation options include the ability to drag and drop features and tools to easily accessible places, whether you want to see your RSS feeds instantly, or want to move the new tab button to somewhere you can always find it.

Customisation options also apply to the Firefox add-ons you can download so whether you want to scrap the default options and use just your Add-ons, that's fine with Firefox.

To enter customisation mode, you can head to the menu, then choose Customize. You can position your favourite shortcuts to the area directly right of the search box or by clicking on the drop down menu, identified by three horizontal lines on the far right of the toolbar.

Another of the big highlights in Firefox 29 is its improved sync option, allowing you to easily set up, manage and sync between devices with a single sign-on, whether you're using the browser on Mac, PC, Android or Linux.

The final big change is how the browser looks. It's the first edition of Firefox to use the Australis interface and this brings with it smaller tabs that have been moved up a little higher to take up less of your screen and those tabs that aren't in use have been visually de-emphasised' so they're not as obvious.

The bookmark manager icon has been moved next to the bookmark star so it's easier to add the current page as a bookmark in one click.

Other new tweaks include an onboard tour to help users navigate through the new interface and a new gamepad API, allowing a gamepad to be used for web gaming.

The Firefox 29 beta launch blog post said, "Firefox is the trusted browser of choice for half a billion people worldwide and we are excited to bring the new Firefox to our audience of beta testers."

The beta version of Firefox 29 is available to download and test from the Firefox website.
