Orange trials 20Mbps broadband

Orange is trialling 20Mbps fixed broadband, offering the service to select lucky customers for the same price as the mobile operator's 8Mbps service.

Orange is looking to test the stability and performance of its network, before offering such speeds to the rest of its customers. It called the upgrades the "largest set of improvements" to its fixed line service to date. As usual, the speed on offer depends on the line's quality and distance from the exchange.

Asif Aziz, Orange's director of broadband and home, said in a statement: "This trial is an important step in enabling us to offer up to 20 Meg home broadband to consumers across our network."

Ofcom recently gave BT the green light to move ahead in investing 1.5 billion in its next-generation networks.
