Google and CAB team for online security campaign


Google has teamed up with the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) for an online safety campaign.

The Good to Know campaign will seek to educate people about securing their data and how to manage it more effectively.

A Good to Know website has been set up featuring four different sections. These include how to stay safe on the internet, how people's data is being used on the web, how information is being used on Google and how users can manage their data better.

Everyone wants to stay safe online, but many people aren't confident that they know how to.

Information on cookies, malware and mobile security are all included on the site.

A major advertising campaign has been kicked off as well, with ads to appear on public transport, online and in print.

"Citizens Advice is all about straightforward, simple advice on the issues that matter, so helping people take control of their safety and privacy online is right up our street," said Gillian Guy, chief executive of the CAB.

Anthony House, Google communications and policy manager, said the Good to Know campaign was about providing "easy steps everyone can take."

"Everyone wants to stay safe online, but many people aren't confident that they know how to," House added.

There are a range of security awareness campaigns run in the UK. Get Safe Online Week is one of the biggest and will be taking place from 7-11 November
