VMware acquires Pattern Insight's big data analytics platform
Virtualisation giant fleshes out big data strategy with Log Insight purchase.
Virtualisation giant VMware has hit the acquisition trail for the second time in a month by snapping up Pattern Insight's big data analytics platform.
The vendor has struck a deal with Pattern Insight to acquire the firm's Log Insight product, as well as the engineering team behind it.
The product allows end users to analyse large amounts of machine-generated data in real time to help IT administrators track patterns and system problems. It can be used in datacentres and the cloud.
In a brief statement, announcing the deal, Pattern Insight said VMware's backing will allow the technology to reach a larger number of users.
In a blog post, Spiros Xanthos, Pattern Insight's co-founder and chief executive, added: "VMware is ideally positioned in the middle of two of the most important shifts in IT in the recent years, virtualisation and cloud computing.
"It therefore provides the perfect home for Log Insight and the team to continue innovating."
The deal is the second acquisition VMware has made in the past month, after it purchased networking virtualisation player Nicira in July.
