25/11/2016: Microsoft has already started shipping some Surface Studio devices, although it had originally planned to start in mid-December.
Some of the first people who pre-ordered Surface Studio received an email saying their order is on its way and should arrive this week.
Surface Studio is the All-in-One device presented by Microsoft at its event in October, featuring an Intel Core-i7 Processor, and TrueColor technology that enhances colour on its display.
The Surface Studio All-In-One costs $2,999 and although Microsoft is still accepting orders for it, for those who order today, their devices will not be shipped until early 2017.
26/10/2016: Microsoft today took the wraps off its designer-oriented device, the Surface Studio All-in-One.
Featuring an Intel Core-i7 processor, this is a device that can be a tablet, a desktop, a laptop and practically anything else.
Open for pre-orders from today, the Studio will set you back $2,999, so it's not an easy sell, but its features and specs are certainly impressive.
Aimed at designers, it features an nVidia GTX 980m GPU, 32GB of memory, 2TB of storage and a 28in touchscreen display.
It also has hinges that lets you use it the way you wish, standing up or flat on a desk if you're drawing onto it.
Of course, a designer-oriented device wouldn't be a designer-oriented device without a stylus, and dutifully the Studio supports the Surface Pen for writing and drawing on it. But Redmond has also come up with a new innovation, called the Surface Dial, which gives you much more control over the user interface and various different programme features.
The LCD screen is Microsoft's thinnest ever, measuring 12/5mm, and the 13m display uses TrueColor to help creatives know they are looking at accurate colours. If you want, you can even control the device via Cortana using voice commands, and the device gives haptic feedback for more precise scrolling.
Is it a B2B device?
In short, no, it's definitely one for designers, and you can get a better work-suited Surface for your money. But that said, Microsoft says its enterprise apps work just fine on the Studio. "Designed for the latest versions of Microsoft Office and Windows, every Surface device takes full advantage of every innovation, including Windows Ink Workspace," the firm writes. "Just click the Eraser Button on Surface Pen to bring up all of your Inking apps."
The device will be stocked in US Microsoft stores from tomorrow, with a UK price yet to be revealed.
