IBM aims for data centre standards
A new alliance is looking to create open standards and interoperability for data centre vendors.

A new IBM-led alliance is looking to create standards for enterprise data centres, to promote energy efficiency and resiliency, as well as open standards.
The Enterprise Data Centre Alliance programme will stress the importance of interoperability and open standards to help achieve its goals. Standards, such as those for energy efficiency, can help enable interoperability, leading to savings in energy use, staff resources and workloads.
The alliance is supported by Brocade, Citrix, Eaton, Emulex, Juniper Networks, Novell, RedHat, Sun and VMware.
"IBM's commitment to open standards and interoperability will be beneficial in supporting high levels of performance and end-to-end interoperability across the new enterprise data centre ecosystem," said Marty Lans, senior director of data centre marketing at Brocade.
The programme will also offer access to joint marketing, participation in development projects and the opportunity of interoperability tests.
It is offering membership to hardware and software vendors which work in any element of data centres, including networking, virtualisation, platforms, storage and more.
