The government's Digital Inclusion team has lost a few laptops after its Soho-based offices were broken into.
The Digital Inclusion team looks to bridge the digital divide and get more people online. Lastminute.com founder Martha Lane Fox works with the team after being named the Champion for Digital Inclusion earlier this year.
A spokeswoman for the team confirmed the burglary had occurred and said the police were investigating, but added that just a few computers were taken. "It wasn't a significant amount, just a couple," she told IT PRO
She added that the team is "not worried about confidential material leaking," as no important data was held on the machines, but normally accessed via a network.
Indeed, Lane Fox didn't seem too upset about the burglary in postings on her personal Twitter account. She first notified the world of the theft via that site saying: "O bloody hell the digitalinclusion office has been broken into and all computers taken" - although that post has since been removed.
She later added that she saw some "dark humour" in the incident, and suggested someone "thought it was a quicker way to get included".
