IT Pro Leader Board: 2012 tech hopes

Phil Richards, director of IT, Loughborough University

In 2012 the user is king!

"The biggest tech hope for 2012 is to bridge the current divide between enterprise and consumer users. This will require more effort than just a Mobile Device Management tool to manage consumer tablets and smartphones.

What is required is a change in strategy, technology and culture within IT departments. This change needs to happen at an application level rather than infrastructure level, which is a shift in the way IT services are delivered today. This is not an easy ask and will require enterprises to engage with the users, put them in the driving seat and redesign the services to match their expectations. This has been highlighted by the proliferation of consumer devices and services, which, in my mind, has proven that today we do not deliver "fit for purpose" IT solutions.

In 2012 the user is king!"
