Google has developed a touchscreen Chromebook with a touted resolution of 2560 x 1700 as the web giant aims to outshine the Retina Display (2,560 x 1,600) found on Apple's MacBook range.

The device dubbed the "Chromebook Pixel" has been showcased after production company Slinky.Me was hacked and an extensive promotional video was leaked.

The video focuses on the importance of the pixel, giving weight to the fact that the display will be the flagship feature of the device.

"By itself a pixel isn't much, but together pixels create entire worlds. You could say like an atom, a pixel is a building block and the more pixels we add, the more wonderful the world," explains the voiceover man.

"And from 4 million pixels, we've created something new - the Chromebook Pixel."

Victor Koch, founder of the video production company Slinky.Me, posted an apology for the leak on his Google+ page

"Our all servers were attacked by hackers, and we apologize for the fact that many projects have been shown previously," Koch posted.

"We have identified important information. One of the attacks were [sic] carried out from China. The investigation continues."

Developer Franois Beaufort discovered the leaked video on YouTube and posted it on his Google+ page. Following his post, the link to the promotional video was deleted and Koch posted the apology.

So far it is unclear who will manufacturer the Chromebook Pixel. Google already has three manufacturers on board making existing devices Acer, Samsung and HP, which launched its first device, the HP Pavilion 14 Chromebook on Monday.
