SolarWinds' DPA now supports MySQL and Linux from the off

SolarWinds has announced enhancements for its Database Performance Analyzer (DPA) IT management software, now supporting SaaS app performance for MySQL and Linux-only IT organisations, plus enhanced visualisation and analysis tools.

The company's vice president of product marketing, Gerardo Dada, explained these new additions will help companies reduce costs and improve the effectiveness of their organisation as a whole.

Before the update was applied, a Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle repository was needed to store the information that SolarWinds DPA collected. Now, customers can use a native MySQL or Linux repository, making things much simpler.

“For technology-based companies, application performance and infrastructure costs are two key business metrics,” said Dada. “With SolarWinds DPA, development and operations teams who rely on MySQL databases can improve both metrics by leveraging the only application performance intelligence tool that delivers Multi-Dimensional Performance Analysis."

The second big update is visualisation and analysis to help DBAs optimise for and resolve blocking, locking and deadlock issues. This allows DBAs with SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL and SAP ASE databases to identify root blockers and see where the hold up is.

It also alerts the user when SQL Server deadlocks occur, identifying victims and the impact it will have on them, helping administrators prevent it from happening again.

"Until now, most of these teams were in the dark when it came to understanding exactly what drives database performance, as traditional application performance management tools have offered little help in this area," Dada added. "We’re particularly excited for this release of SolarWinds DPA and the positive business impact it will have for SaaS vendors, as well as others.”
