Google unifies cloud storage to give flexible 15GB limit
Users can split free storage between Drive, Gmail and Google+ however they want.
Google is to provide users with a 15GB pool of storage, which they choose to split between Drive, Gmail, and Google+ accounts however they wish.
Clay Bavor, director of product management noted that people use the Google services in different ways, so the firm will no longer impose limits.
"With this new combined storage space, you won't have to worry about how much you're storing and where. For example, maybe you're a heavy Gmail user but light on photos, or perhaps you were bumping up against your Drive storage limit but were only using 2 GB in Gmail. Now it doesn't matter, because you can use your storage the way you want," Bavor noted on the Google Drive blog.
"We'll also be making updates to the Google Drive storage page so you can better understand how you're using storage space. Simply hover over the pie chart to see a breakdown of your storage use across Drive, Gmail, and Google+ Photos," he added.
The announcement comes as Google is continuing to make a variety of changes to its products and services. Last week, the internet search giant announced upgrades to security systems on Android devices, as well as production of stronger hardware to help mitigate account hacking.
The changes to Google Drive Storage are expected to be implemented within the next few weeks. Those needing extra space will be able to pay for additional storage. This starts from $4.99 per month for 100GB.
