Apple starts iPad 2 production

Apple iPad

Apple has already started manufacturing the second version of its popular iPad tablet, despite no firm release date having been announced as yet.

So claims a report in the Wall Street Journal, which cites sources close to the situation.

The Apple iPad 2 will boast a built-in camera and speedier processor, it is claimed. The latest model will also be thinner and lighter than its predecessor, with at least one camera.

In line with IT PRO's predictions as to what the next generation iPad may boast as a features set, the WSJ article also suggests the device will have more memory and a more powerful graphics processor.

A Reuters eyewitness is also reported to have seen in early February what looked like a working model of the next iPad with those very features.

Apple has shifted more than 14 million iPads since its release and the second device is expected to prove just as popular, according to industry experts.

Apple has not commented on the speculation and reports surrounding the iPad 2.
