CA World 2011: Q&A: Russ Artzt, CA co-founder

Social media. You can do marketing based on Twitter and what people are saying. Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn have had a tremendous impact. People started using them personally and are now getting business benefit. All of these new technologies need management.

Are we likely to see more innovation centres around the world?

We could. It would have to have leadership and strong development skills. Those would be the two prerequisites. We wouldn't do it just for the sake of doing it. But I am talking to Peter Griffiths about it

A good track record and use cases are crucial to CA innovation.

If we were in an alternate universe and you hadn't been involved with CA from the start, what one technology or company do you wish you'd created?

The Google search engine! I have a lot of respect for what those guys [and others] have done but I wouldn't necessarily want to be there. CA is [my life]. I've been with the company for 35 years.

What would you like to be talking about at the next CA world event? And, conversely, what would you rather not have to talk about?

I'd like to be talking about the innovations from the centre. A track record and success would be satisfying. A good track record and use cases are crucial to CA innovation.

I don't want to be talking about having had a bad quarter. Or being unsuccessful, or the death of the cloud. The cloud is here to stay and it's just going to get bigger.
