Apple plans to release its two new operating systems, iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite, separately this autumn, despite the promise of improved integration between the two.
The staggered release plan will reportedly see iOS 8 land in September with the highly-anticipated iPhone 6, before a month wait for OS X Yosemite in October.
The arrival of the iPhone 6 has been teased as Apple's biggest launch to date.
Continuity was a huge part of Apple's presentation at the WWDC back in June, with talk of integrated features such as the ability to make and take phone calls from the Mac and finish writing an email on the Mac that was started on an iPhone (through Hand-Off'), which makes this announcement a little surprising.
A beta version of Yosemite is expected to reach users in late July or early August, which will give us our first real look at the new OS.
Other new features set to appear are a revamped notifications centre, improved search functionality, iCloud Drive and MailDrop.
iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks also launched a month apart from each other in September and October 2013, respectively.
