Lenovo and Nutanix announce hyperconverged appliances
Nutanix's software will be available on Lenovo's hardware to converge storage, server and virtualisation services
Lenovo and Nutanix have announced a strategic partnership that will see a new range of hyperconverged devices running Nutanix's software on Lenovo's hardware come to market.
The tie-up will mean simplified management of datacentres thanks to the combination of storage, server and virtualisation services into a single integrated scale-out appliance.
The appliances will be able to run all workloads including applications, big data and databases to make it more efficient for businesses looking to pair down their systems.
"Lenovo is an undisputed leader in multiple technology markets, and it has earned the trust of thousands of enterprises around the globe with its innovative and high-quality products," said Dheeraj Pandey, Nutanix founder and CEO. "Partnering with Lenovo is a critical milestone in our journey to bring invisible infrastructure, with the efficiencies of web-scale technology and power of consumer-grade design, to companies of all sizes."
The news is another string to Lenovo's converged infrastructure business, which was pushed forward when Lenovo bought IBM's commodity server business last year.
"Lenovo can bring a new perspective to the global enterprise space," said Yang Yuanqing, chairman and CEO of Lenovo. "We do not have to protect old ways of thinking or entrenched ideas. Instead, we can build our business on innovation, and partner freely with the most innovative, leading companies in this space to create new solutions."
He added that Nutanix's reputation combined with Lenovo's global reach, will enable both companies to thrive by helping customers dramatically reduce complexity in datacentres of all sizes.

The new appliances will be sold through Lenovo's sales channels, although the two companies will jointly promote them and work on development together.
