Network security vendor WatchGuard Technologies has announced plans to acquire email and web security firm BorderWare Technologies.

WatchGuard will add BorderWare’s email, messaging, content and web security offerings to its own security appliance portfolio.

“This acquisition is extremely complementary and will allow WatchGuard to accelerate and further deliver on its vision of extending security solutions to protect corporate data, networks and applications,” says Joe Wang, CEO, WatchGuard Technologies in a statement. “By acquiring BorderWare’s best in class messaging, content security and innovative ‘in-the-cloud’ security offerings, customers will now have a single source for comprehensive and complete security.”

“WatchGuard has a history of technology and market leadership in the multifunction security appliance space, and BorderWare offers innovative email, messaging, content and web security solutions. The threat landscape is changing dramatically and customers are demanding easy to use security solutions with advanced firewall, VPN, web, and messaging security,” said Jeff Wilson, Principal Analyst, Network Security at Infonetics Research. “The combined company will be well-positioned to meet rigorous customer requirements.”

No immediate changes will be made to BorderWare product offerings, customer support and channel programmes, says the company.

Terms of the acquisition are not being disclosed.
