A team of seven volunteers from Brother UK’s distribution team along with Steve Malone from H20adventures have taken on the challenge of kayaking the entire length of the non-tidal River Thames in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Taking five days to complete, the Brother team – Jeremy Bedford, David Goodman, Charlotte Gillooley, Kate Falkingham, Shammi Mistry, Malcolm Drake and Lesley Howe (pictured) – journeyed 135 miles from Cricklade in Wiltshire to Teddington Lock in Greater London.
The team, from the information, communication and technology services provider, were beginner kayakers before training started, but took to the water to raise as much money as possible to support Cancer Research UK. They have already secured over £6,200 in donations for the world's largest independent cancer research charity.
This endeavour marks the start of a wider charity initiative, organised and funded by Brother, involving eight UK distributors, including Midwich, Exertis, JGBM, VOW, Exertis Supplies, UFP, BETA and Northamber. The VOW team are planning a charity skydive in July, and Midwich is set to take on the Three Peaks Challenge, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon in 24 hours.
Brother UK’s senior business manager and organiser, David Goodman, said: “It was a tough challenge, but the team gave it their all for such a worthy cause. We want to thank everyone who has already donated, and urge our channel partners to dig deep to support distributors and our chosen charity.”
