Phil Jones, managing director of Brother UK, has been awarded an MBE in recognition of his services to business.
The award to Jones, who has been at the Manchester-based firm for more than 20 years, was announced on Friday, June 10 in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
The exec (pictured) described the award as “wonderful. He says: “I’m passionate about business as a force for good in people’s lives and in our local communities. This is why I spend time sharing any knowledge gained and encouraging other entrepreneurs and businesspeople. Helping other businesses helps Brother UK too. We work hard to ensure that we take on the very best practice that we learn from others.”
Having joined Brother UK as a fax salesman in 1994, Phil has held a series of roles at the firm, including UK sales and marketing director. He was made deputy managing director in 2012 and managing director a year later.
The £100m-turnover business was named by The Sunday Times as one of the 100 Best Places to Work in 2014 and earlier this year became only the second company in the UK to achieve Investors in People Platinum status.
Elsewhere, channel veteran Neil Ledger was awarded the British Empire Medal in the Honours List, recognising his efforts in raising more than £300,000 for over 40 local and national charities over the last 20 years.
Currently a non-executive board director at distributor Exclusive Group, Ledger comments: “I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive this award.

“It just seemed obvious to me that we could bring successful people from the IT industry and channel together, look after them for the day and encourage them to give a little back to those who need it most. It has been its own reward, and I’ve made great friends along the way. I’ve loved every minute, and this year’s event will be particularly special. But this hasn’t all been down to me alone and I’d like to dedicate this accolade to all the people who have helped organise the events over the years, all those who have donated auction prizes and finally all the people who have dug deep and donated to so many worthy causes.”
