iPad Air vs Sony Xperia Z2: Which is best?

Design

Tablets get thinner and lighter with every generation. Apple's iPad Air weighs in at 478g and is 7.5mm thick. The bare Aluminum coating on the back of the iPad looks fantastic and is cool to the touch. However, the Air also feels like the more fragile of the two devices - with the Aluminium prone to denting if dropped.

Sony has managed to outdo Apple in terms of engineering. The Z2 is lighter (439g) and thinner (6.4mm) thick. The matte finish on the back means the device is not as in-your-face as the iPad, but it is more comfortable to grip.

Sony's Xperia products are robust with an IP55/58 rating. This means the Android tablet can be submerged in up to 3 meters of water for 30 minutes without any problems.

Winner Sony Xperia Z2 - It's thinner, lighter and waterproof.
