Trustwave snaps up M86 Security

Pile of dollar bills

Security specialist Trustwave announced today it is to acquire web security firm M86 Security for an undisclosed sum.

“By acquiring M86 Security, Trustwave is adding web security to one of the industry’s most comprehensive security product portfolios – including our compliance, application, network and data security solutions,” said Robert J. McCullen, chairman, CEO and president of Trustwave in a statement. “Customers and partners will benefit from our simplified approach to delivering advanced anti-malware technology through the cloud and our managed services.”

According to IDC, the worldwide web security market is forecast to grow from $1.7bn in 2010 to $3.0bn in 2015, representing a 12.1 percent compound annual growth rate.

With the acquisition, Trustwave says it aims to protect its customers from the more than 90 percent of all malware that is delivered through the web. The firm will gain M86’s Secure Web Gateway, M86 WebMarshal and M86 Web Filtering and Reporting Suite products. Trustwave also enhances its position in email security with the addition of M86 MailMarshal.

It will also benefit from the California-based company’s new anti-malware technologies, including a cloud-based technology that M86 Security is developing to protect organisations from targeted attacks in emails. Trustwave says it plans to add these technologies to its existing products, including its cloud-based TrustKeeper portal.

Bolstering its presence in EMEA and Asia Pacific, Trustwave will take charge of M86 Security’s 25,000 customers with 26m users in more than 96 countries. The firm says it does plan to adopt M86 Security’s partner programme, Partner Focus.

Leo Cole, chief marketing officer at Trustwave describes the acquisiton as “a great opportunity for the M86 channel.” He says: “We are adopting M86’s PartnerFocus channel partner programme, and channel partners will soon have the opportunity to sell not only M86 products but also Trustwave’s broad portfolio of security and compliance solutions as well as new and enhanced products rolled out by the combined company. For example, today we outlined our plans to add the M86 Secure Web Gateway to our lineup of Managed Security Services.”

“Trustwave has a tremendously successful track record of not only finding, acquiring and integrating security companies but also continuing to innovate their products and technologies,” added John Vigouroux, CEO at M86 Security. “Customers and partners have a lot to look forward to as the combination of Trustwave and M86 Security gives them access to a broader, unified security portfolio powered by the industry’s most advanced threat technology intelligence.”
