VAR Trustmarque has announced the 100 percent share purchase acquisition of Glasgow-based services and consultancy Opin Systems Limited.

Established in 1990, Opin counts the United Nations, The Department for International Development, The Student Loans Company and The Scottish Prison Service among its customers. It’s services include IT strategy, project management, infrastructure, planning and deployment, as well as business continuity and disaster recovery. It also manages a significant contractor resourcing division providing ad hoc and contracted expertise across a range of technical disciplines.

Trustmarque CEO Scott Haddow says the firm is “dedicated to deepening its expertise, offering the services that provide real value” to our customers. He explains: “We are delighted to welcome Opin as a part of the Trustmarque team. We have first-hand experience of working with Opin and were in no doubt that there is a big opportunity here.

“Opin have a superb reputation in Scotland, but they have long-term customers throughout the UK. I know that with Trustmarque’s scale, capabilities and resources, they can build on their successes so far. The combined business will be good news for both sets of customers.”

Opin founder and managing director Graham Curran will join Trustmarque with his team to lead the new Opin division. He comments: “I have worked with my team for over twenty years, building a strong reputation, delivering key technology projects into some major customers. Working as a partner with Trustmarque I realised that they were the right organisation to deliver further value to Opin’s customers, while giving the Opin team an opportunity to bring our skills and expertise into Trustmarque’s offering. It’s a great fit.”

A Microsoft Gold Partner across a range of disciplines, Trustmarque specialises in transformational technology projects, specialising in workforce productivity, commercial assurance, security consolidation and business performance management.

The firm currently employs 190 people at three sites, in York (HQ), the City of London and Edinburgh. Customers include RBS, Lloyds Banking Group, Sainsbury’s and Capita. Public sector clients include the NHS, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Justice, National Services Scotland and NHS Wales.

Haddow also referenced the midmarket buyout house, Dunedin, which backed the £43m management buyout of Trustmarque in June 2013. “Dunedin’s support for our growth plans was key to making this acquisition possible, and we continue to focus on those plans,” he adds.

In 2011, Trustmarque acquired Nimbus Technology Systems as part of its strategy to grow its cloud-based services offering.
