Solar snapped up by Midland rival Wavenet

Wavenet has bought unified comms platform Solar Communications to boost its managed service portfolio to customers.

The acquisition means Wavenet will be able to offer the full suite of fully converged data, voice, cloud, security and mobile to ensure customers can take advantage of the cloud-powered unified communications revolution.

The duo said the tie-up would enable both businesses to offer a wider variety of products to more geographies, as well as being able to grow both companies' offerings with an enhanced management team and new product innovations.

“Solar is an extremely capable and exciting business with a very talented team. Its combination with Wavenet will provide added depth to the innovative and business enhancing services provided to both sets of customers," Bill Dawson CEO of Wavenet said.

“Solar has been successful developing the platform, people and services required for growing the business both organically and by acquisition. This has accelerated its transition from being a leading telephone system reseller in the UK, into becoming a fully managed cloud service provider, able to provide superlative technology and a fully managed service."

Solar chief executive John Whitty will join Wavenet with his key role integrating the two businesses and ensuring there's a seamless transition for all customers and partners. It hasn't been revealed whether other members of Solar will be merged with Wavenet as yet.

“Following an intensive 30 months of growing our business into a successful and agile organisation, the time is right to take the next step and allow our customers to benefit from our significant joint capability and experience in the UC market," John Whitty, CEO of Solar Communications said.

"We are all very pleased that the Wavenet values and culture are extremely close to those already present within Solar which should make the integration of the businesses so much easier.”
