Google has launched a channel partner programme for its cloud services.

The Google Cloud Platform Partner Programme will offer a Services Partner designation that will include systems integrators, VARs, developers and web designers that provide consulting and implementation services on various Google Cloud Platform products.

According to Eric Morse, head of sales and business development for the new Google Cloud Platform, the programme “provides partners with the tools, training and resources they need to successfully address [their] business’ IT needs.”

Service Partners already developing business applications include PA Consulting, which used the Google App Engine to create the social weather website for the Met Office. It also used Google’s Big Query platform to upload and interrogate anonymous patient data approaching a billion units in a project for the NHS.

Says Dan Rossner, cloud solutions specialist at PA Consulting Group: “Previously it would have taken hours or days to run a query on a resource of this scale – using Big Query we could do it in a few seconds.”

UK integrator Appogee, meanwhile, provides a collection of applications that connect to Google Apps published in the Google Apps marketplace, as well as providing custom development and integration services for its enterprise customers.

“The Google Cloud Platform Partner Programme enables us to help our clients develop new cloud-based solutions that drive their success in the Enterprise sector by building on the power of the Google Cloud Platform,” comments MD Stuart Keeble. “The Google Cloud Platform offers a broad set of application development, cloud storage, large scale computing, and big data capabilities that provides us with the ability to offer reliable and scalable innovations to our clients.”

Elsewhere Google’s other group of partners, Technology Partners, will provide tools that integrate with Google’s platform or use one of its services as a foundation for their products, such as Google BigQuery, Google Compute Engine and Google Cloud Storage.
