Alibaba Cloud and VMware launch new cloud service

growth strategy

Alibaba Cloud and VMware have launched the next generation of their jointly developed Alibaba Cloud VMware Service, in a bid to help enterprises across China accelerate their digital transformation.

Successful enterprise application modernisation requires hybrid cloud infrastructure

Optimise business outcomes with a secure and reliable modern infrastructure

The offering has been designed to enable businesses to migrate and modernize applications faster and seamlessly move workloads between on-premises VMware environments and Alibaba Cloud at scale.

The service includes access to the entire VMware stack running natively on Alibaba Cloud’s infrastructure – a setup the pair said will help maximise performance, availability, security, as well as increase workload density.

“In today’s app-driven economy, more and more Chinese enterprises are adopting a hybrid cloud model to accelerate their digital transformation,” commented Mark Lohmeyer, senior vice president and general manager at VMware’s Cloud Infrastructure Business Group.

“Alibaba Cloud VMware Service helps customers modernize applications, infrastructure and operations faster with demonstrable economic benefits and less risk.”

Ultimately, customers will be able to leverage a VMware cloud platform that can support vMotion migration of workloads to Alibaba Cloud VMware Service with zero disruptions.

The integrations enable enterprise-grade compute, storage and networking capabilities, as well as unified infrastructure and management for high visibility and automation.

Customers can also benefit from improved security, with the ability to create offsite disaster recovery sites to safeguard VMs in any operating system and application. It also facilitates fast and predictable recovery time objectives (RTOs) and the ability to automate disaster recovery workflows to reduce costs.

Additionally, vSphere capabilities will help maximize the value of underlying hardware resources, with the costs associated with moving vSphere workloads to non-vSphere public clouds mostly eliminated, the companies said.

“Alibaba Cloud VMware Service enables enterprises to seamlessly migrate workload to cloud and reduce the costs of both operations and migration,” said Ms Lijuan Chen, Vice President of Alibaba Group. “It also helps enterprises leverage leading cloud technologies to further unlock the benefits of digital transformation.”
