French desktop and application virtualisation vendor Systancia has appointed specialist thin client and server based computing distributor Getech to distribute its software in the UK and Ireland.

Systancia recently opened a UK office, as well as launching its AppliDis Fusion 4 application and desktop virtualisation solution in December 2009. The firm says it selected Getech based on its base of channel partners in the thin client and server centric computing space.

According to industry analysts IDC, the market for desktop virtualisation is set to reach $4bn by 2011 from a base of around $2bn in 2009. Systancia has already achieved a strong customer base in the French financial, health, education and Government markets, and is looking to replicate the success in the UK and other European markets.

Andy Boyle, UK sales manager for Systancia comments, “Getech was a natural choice as distribution partner for our virtualisation solutions, as their complementary range of thin client desktop products means that they have existing established channel partner relationships, plus in-depth expertise in server-base computing, which will be a perfect fit for us. We will be working actively with Getech with a special focus on recruiting smaller and medium sized resellers who want to differentiate themselves from the large players and offer a competitive and compelling alternative to the market leaders.”

Adds Guy Watts, sales director at Getech: “We have seen a huge increase in the demand for thin client desktops over the past 12 months , this is as a result of not only widespread acceptance of the advantages to be gained from server virtualisation but the significant increase in functionality that thin clients in a virtual desktop environment now offer.

“Getech are regularly involved with our reseller partners in the latter stages of designing a virtual desktop solution so it is a logical decision for us to offer our partners an application and desktop solution that compliments the TCO savings of thin clients...We believe the combination of a cost effective virtualisation solution with low cost thin clients will provide our partners the products to capture a significant portion of the VDI market.”
